In vitro propagation of <em>Gyrinops walla</em> Gaetner ‘Walla patta’, a vulnerable agarwood producing species in Sri Lanka

Aloeswood or Agarwood has long been a perfumery commodity traded between Mediterranean Region and Southeast Asia since B. C. era. Oil chips obtained by destructive harvesting of several Thymeleaceous genera including Aquilaria Gonystylus are expensive such ingredients high in demand the global market. The recent discovery Gyrinops walla as potential producer market-quality agarwood mature damaged woods branches, intensified illicit felling exportation G. that led to it being verge extinction from Sri Lankan flora. sustainable utilization undoubtedly enhances foreign exchange country non-destructive through tissue culture-based techniques is only option available for exploitation conservation vulnerable species. A new species of Tyrannomyrmex (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) from Sri Lanka.

Tyrannomyrmex legatus sp. nov. is described based on a single worker collected from leaf litter in dipterocarp forest in southern Sri Lanka. A key is presented to separate the three known species of Tyrannomyrmex. A probable male specimen of the genus from the Philippines is noted.
